This lady fair stands in the harbor,
Holding high a guiding light for all.
She's watched o'er us here for many years;
Watched joys and troubles, large and small.

But what did she see that ominous day,
On that eleventh day of September?
Her homeland shook, her homeland wept,
On that day we'll always remember.

Flames and smoke were billowing up,
Scorching the heavens above;
They carried the souls of many good people;
And left holes in hearts filled with love.

She must have wanted to turn away,
To sheild her eyes from this sorrow.
She must have yearned for yesterday -
And dreaded to face tomorrow.

But still she never wavered,
Her torch was held on high,
Guiding Americans to a brand new place;
Their home up in the sky.

I see God looking down on her,
With His gentle, comforting rays;
Giving hope for all she stands for,
To guide us through hellish days.

America was severely wounded;
These heroes taken unawares.
But Lady Liberty stands on, proud and tall,
Showing the world how much she cares.

Those who were torn from their desks that day,
The firemen that were lost on the stairs,
The First Responders who answered the call,
And their families, live on in our prayers.

And now our Servicemen and women
Have responded to do their duty;
We must honor them all the best way we can,
From dust and debris, bring beauty.

We who can only sit and wait
Must live lives devoted to unity;
America and the rest of the peace-loving world
Must become a stronger community!

And as the Lord looks down on Miss Liberty there,
May her torch light up all our faces;
May we show the doubters for once and for all
That America is made up of people - not places!

May we hold each other in heart and in prayers;
May we live lives filled with everyday love;
May we all go forth a bit better these days,
"Through the night, with the light from above."
