Mikey says... [click here]

August, 5th, 2001... Mikey and family would appreciate your prayers, as we travel to Little Rock this week for a heart echo. We are praying and believing God for another miracle and complete healing for Mikey.. that he would not need ANY more heart surgeries! Thank you all for continuing to pray for us, and..
Thank You, Lord.

Previous echos have shown a 68° blockage of the homograft implanted in Mikey's heart. Any further procedures or replacement of this homograft would entail major open-heart surgery. We pray that the calcification that is causing this blockage will miraculously be reversed.

Reading before bedtime...

August, 12th, 2001... Mikey was in Little Rock last week for a special heart echo. The echo shows that the donor valve, or homograft, has calcified a little more. It shows 70° mercury now (that is how it is measured). Previous echos have shown a 68° blockage of the homograft implanted in Mikey's heart. Any further procedures or replacement of this homograft would entail major open-heart surgery. We pray that the calcification that is causing this blockage will miraculously be reversed, or that medical science will find a more permanent solution than these short-lived homografts. The cardiologists are discussing a procedure to place a metal stent in the homograft to open it up that way. If this is possible, it might prolong the life of the homograft for another year or so.. delaying the riskier replacement surgery. They gave us another 4 months and will do another echo before making that decision. While we would have liked to have heard better news, we did come back to Fort Smith relieved that we now have 4 more months with Mikey before we have to start worrying again. We've come such a long way with Mikey. He will start the 1st grade on the 20th! God is good. Thank You, Lord!

August, 19th, 2001... Well, Mikey is already to start school Monday (Aug 20th).. 1st grade! We had a little conference with his new teacher and the new principal. Everyone should know what to do, just in case Mikey were to have any problems during school, although we're not expecting any. Mikey checked the board to see who his classmates would be this year, and sure enough, his girlfriend from kindergarten will be in the same class with him this year, too.. He was SO excited about that.. he went home and called her right away.. She told him she had already checked too and found out they would have the same teacher again this year. Mikey is still doing well.

Sunday School graduation...

August, 26th, 2001... In today's picture, Mikey is holding up his sunday school graduation certificate. He hasn't missed one sunday school class since being released from the hospital last year, and he starts going to his new class today. Mikey's big Bubba and his new sister-in-law, Tammy, have closed on their new house and have been moving in this weekend, so Mikey wants to have his picture taken over there next time.. so everyone can see the new house. Mikey is still doing well. He's thin, but he has maintained a weight of about 45 pounds for several weeks now. He is scheduled for an arrythmia clinic next month and another heart echo in December.
