We know for sure where Mikey's going --
Mikey's going to heaven.
But we beg of you, don't send him now;
He's only just turned seven!

Mikey has a zest for life,
He shares his love and joy;
Please don't send him off too soon -
He's just a little boy.

We've talked to God about this child,
And I'm sure He understands;
But the State of Arkansas now holds
The lives of children in their hands!

Mikey's very close to God,
His faith and hope abound;
So we're asking you, Oh Arkansas,
To let him stick around!

We follow legislature,
We read each new report;
We're begging you, Oh Arkansas -
Don't cut this young life short!

Mikey is a miracle;
He's fought a valiant fight.
So please, oh State of Arkansas,
Listen to his plight!

Mikey is a spokesman for
So many children there;
And only you can save them
And their families from despair.

If you turn your backs on them
Perhaps God will forgive,
But we're asking you, Oh Arkansas,
To let these children live!

There's only so much money,
Some programs must be filed -
But cut your budget elsewhere;
You needn't kill a child!

Yes, we know where Mikey's going;
Mikey's going to heaven.
But Arkansas, don't send him now --
He's only just turned seven!

Incredibly enough, less than a year later, the situation has resurfaced! So....

Second verse, same as the first, only WORSE!!!!

A scant year has gone by since
Some awful lies were spoken;
How can you legislators live
With the promises you've broken?

How can you live in fancy homes?
How can you sleep at night?
How could you take the money
That would have eased our children's plight?!

The governor made a promise that
No child would be pushed off;
But here we go again, AGAIN!
And how the voters scoff.

Mikey needs more surgery,
And Mikey cannot vote.
But Mikey has supporters
A-paddling his boat!!

Mikey has a lot more years
Of his young life left to live;
He has boundless joy and endless faith,
And special love to give.

Election time will come again;
Your responses have been noted.
Who will live in fancy mansions then,
When all of us have voted??

Yes, we know for sure where Mikey's going -
He's going through heaven's gate.
But, Arkansas, don't send him now,
He's only just turned eight.

A note from Mikey's Dad 02/22/02:
That's great, and what a great picture.
Mikey says, "Is that Heaven?"
He's watching the WebTV from the kitchen table,
eating his breakfast before school.

Thanks, Rick!! And, Mikey, I think that's just the side of heaven
we can see from here on earth. ~smile~
