For Dr. Jonathan Drummond-Webb
-- Our beloved Doctor D --
Has gone on to sing with God's angels,
And can no longer be here for me.
This man whose hands saved so many lives
Now himself sits beside God's hand;
But why he had to leave us now
Is so hard for us to understand.
Of each one hundred children
That came for care 'neath his touch,
He saved 98; but "those other two"
Distressed him so very much.
Now those babies surround him,
The ones that no one could save,
And now they wipe away his tears,
This man who was always so brave!
God must have had a good reason;
When He gave that sudden call.
Perhaps JJ can guide more surgeons
From his place up in heaven's hall.
Yes, Doctor D's work on earth is done,
And it ended before we were ready.
But we will have faith, and keep moving on;
For our faith in God is steady.
We pray for all of Dr. D's "kids"
The ones he has left behind.
We pray they'll remember him gently,
Because he always was so kind.
He always cared so very much,
As if each child were his own.
And so we wish him Godspeed
On his journey to God's great throne.
Amen.
